Recently, I
had gone for menu tasting. It was a scrumptious spread of fusion dishes. Before,
I go into sharing details, let me shed some light on what is menu tasting.
Menu tasting
is a formal/informal meet where we taste the new menu. It is a lunch/dinner
where I get to taste some of the favorite dishes of chef, popular dishes, or
the new inventions. Sometimes it is mix of all. Based on our menu tasting, we
share our feedback to the team.
My recent
visit of menu tasting was at Bayleaf, Courtyard by Marriott, Ahmedabad. The
menu consisted of the fusions dishes designed by Chef Rahil Aga. Chef Aga
believes in fusion and his love definitely reflects in this specially designed
menu for Bayleaf.
Here’s what
I had:
Starters
Dabeli
Paneer Kebab: Bringing together the love
of Amdavad and cottage cheese, these Dabeli Paneer Kebabs are a must try. The
yummy Dabeli Masala is clubbed between two grilled Paneer cubes. Served with
chutney’s, it has an alluring taste to it.
Subz
Popsicle: A new look to our vegetable kebabs, these Popsicle very chewy and
moist. Whenever you try vegetable kebabs, it tends to get little dry but these
popsicles weren’t the same. In fact, they were loaded with freshness and
flavors.
Chana Jor Poppers:
When we are combining Indian chats, how can we leave our Chana Jor Garam? This
was a fusion dish of our Western poppers having melted cheese and jalapenos,
coated with Chana Jor. A classic twist to our desi Chana Jor!
Tandoori
Tikka Salad: When I thought that you cannot invent anything more than this with
Paneer, I was helped with this salad. There were crispy pieces of Paneer with
salad. The dressing took the heartbeats here. It was a combination of jaggery, lime,
and spices. Toss it and it becomes a
beautiful dish.
Laal Mirch
Ka Paneer Tikka: Our authentic Panner tikka was tossed in special chilies that
gave it an alluring flavor.
Main Course:
Dal Bayleaf:
Some dishes are best left to classic taste. This is Dal Makhani that is cooked
for more than 24 hours to bring out the authentic and Makhani flavor in it.
Chef Aga was kind enough to share the entire process with us. It included
keeping the Dal soaked overnight and starting the preparations a day earlier.
It surely takes lot of effort and patience to make it a finger-licking good
dish.
Bayleaf
Makhanwala: A new take on Paneer Makhanwala, chef had given cottage cheese a
“chena” look. These small dumplings were dipped in rich tomato gravy and served
hot with different paranthas/rotis.
Dhingra Ki
Dhingri: One of my favorite! This dish is a delicacy of Mushrooms cooked in
graceful gravy with lots of spring onions. I loved savoring all bites of it.
Assorted
Rotis: I tried their special Bayleaf naan, which comprised of fennel seeds, pistachios,
melon seeds, etc. With it I had some other naans, which were specially prepared
for it.
Overall,
this new menu is worth trying! Do visit and share your experience with me.
Desserts:
Gulab Jamun Tart: A blissful way to end meal was this tart. The soft crunchy based was filled with rose flavored cream and topped with chunks of Gulab Jamun. It was totally worth the time and effort. I was full in my stomach but this dessert, made me want eat again!
